The venerable city of Cochin fondly known as the queen of Arabian Sea, nestles one of the prominent institutions in Kochi St. Mary’s A.I.G.H.S. Fort Kochi. It was on 24^th of November 1889 that Kochi outstretched her arms to welcome the first Canossian Mission in India and the birth of St. Mary’s A.I.G.H.S.

The small seed sown as an English school withstood the ravages of time and grew into a giant tree and is home to 2330 students from all economies of life. It stands by its reputation and fame to the unsustained work of its 58 staff members. The school got recognized as a Government Aided school in the year 1986, this rendering yeoman service in the field of education for the upliftment of girl students residing in and around Kochi.

Many have passed away into the realms of time who have nurtured St. Mary’s in her growth, but even today you can see that something has remained through the years – be it the motto of the Canossian Spirit ‘Charity in Humility, Humility in Charity’ or the motto of the school ‘One Heart – One Way’ the school moulds young hearts irrespective of caste and creed where they live, work and study together.

Every day after the well prepared school assembly the students attend their Religious and Moral Science classes. They participate the Holy Mass every month. They also have the weekly gathering of the Christeen, KCSL, Bakitha Buds, Canossa club, Guides and Red Cross. Apart from this to help the students exhibit their multifarious talents students are encouraged to participate in the Youth Festivals, Science, Mathematics, Social Science, Art and Work Experience exhibitions ever year.

The School has undergone a makeover in the recent times. Racing with the time the classes in the High school and a few classes in the LP and UP have been upgraded to High-tech classrooms to cope up with the changing scenario in technology.

The Alumnae are the most loyal ambassadors of the school. They gather every year on October 2^nd and most of them from different walks of life from all over the world attend this home coming. The PTA of the school also plays a prominent role in shaping the future of the students and acts as an extended hands of the school.

The school is promoted to Higher Secondary School in the year 2014. The school celebrated the Quasquicentennial Year (125Years) in 2014.

As a word of gratitude there have been many who have stood as beacons of light in the growth of St. Mary’s A.I.G.H.S. Let’s be grateful to all the abundant blessings showered and continue to walk in the footsteps of St.Magadalene of Canossa to make Jesus known and loved.
