House: Karnataka
Canossa Convent, Sagarahalli
When the Canossians reached Dodda Sagarahalli village in Bangalore, Karnataka State, the people, poor and illiterate were like Alice in the Wonderland, particularly nowhere to go, nothing to achieve, nothing to dream about. It was into this scenario that the Canossians entered at the invitation of the Bishop of Bangalore in December 1990. The sister initially lived in a small house just like any other house of the poor in the area. Today the sisters have a decent dwelling place and also a multipurpose building which serves as a work room for the girls who are engaged in tailoring and
needle work, counselling centre, tuition class and is used for pastoral activities. 30 years of Canossian presence has definitely changed the face of the village. More children are in school, more women are employed, more cooperation among themselves, fewer men are addicted to liquor and therefore more peace and prosperity in the families and definitely less Alices in the Wonderland. We also have a good Nursery School in the campus now.
