Canossian Convent Marthurkulangara was founded in 1986,  the expressed wish of the then Bishop of Quilon Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Fernandez. The sisters were invited to this village to keep alive the light of hope in the hearts of the marginalized and the forgotten of the area who were searching for a place under the sun and searching for God to give them meaning in life. The sister from the very beginning plunged themselves headlong into socio-pastoral activities. Soon after the blessing and inauguration of the convent, the sisters started a creche with 24 children for which the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Kerala, granted recognition.

In 1992, Canossa Convent English Medium School was established. It runs up to Std VII. A new building has been constructed with the unstinted support of friends at home and abroad to accommodate classes up to Std X. It is fervently hoped that the authorities will open their eyes to the needs of the

growing generation and give the much sought-after recognition to the school so that the children have a chance to get quality education to go forward in life with hope and enthusiasm.
