Canossa Convent, Vypeen
It took 34 years for the good Canossians to cross over to Vypeen Island and share the good news of Jesus Christ with the Islanders. The person instrumental in bringing the Canossians to Vypeen in 1923 was Rt. Dr. Jose Bento Martin Ribeiro the then Bishop of Cochin. The convent and the English Medium School were inaugurated on the same day. The convent is very close to the Parish Church, the Church of Our Lady of Hope and overlooks the backwaters. The Malayalam Medium Upper Primary School was handed over to the sisters by the municipality of Fort Cochin in 1940, and it was renamed as Canossa U.P School. Lady of Hope Anglo-Indian High School, recognized but unaided by the Government accommodated about 1390 students. The two schools together cater to the educational welfare of the student community.
